I got your Nazi appeasers right here, George!

Fascism was quite respectable in the upper classes of American and British society during the 20s and 30s.  Some even called it a natural evolution of Capitalism.  Most agreed it was preferable to Communism.  In the 30s all the big players were making deals with the Nazis.  Standard Oil, IBM, Dow Chemical, Union Carbide, and Ford were just a few of the major manufacturers who counted the Nazis as friends.   This changed after Pearl Harbor.  We were at war.

The Germans were not stupid.  They learned in WWI that any assets held in America could be seized in time of war.  That's why the German cartel of I.G.Farben set up I.G.Suisse.  It allowed them to protect all their holding in Allied countries by transferring them to a corporate entity in neutral Switzerland.  

Now you know one reason why Switzerland was never invaded by the Nazis.  

With that as background, you can see how truly amazing it would be if anyone had the balls to continue doing business out in the open with the Nazis after Pearl Harbor.  Speaking of which, I think George has some big balls to start talking trash about Nazi appeasers.  Apparently that runs in the family ...

Here's how big Grandpa Bush's balls were:

The United States Government seized the assets of his bank.  This is not some secret loonie conspiracy theory.  It is a matter of public record.  It's in the Federal Register from Saturday, November 7, 1942.   Now you know why the Bush family has gone to such lengths to sanitize the public record of so much of their slimy transactions.   They have a history of betraying this country.  But they are also good at paying people off to look the other way.

The dealings with the Nazis was no secret.  In fact, it was on the front page of the New York Herald Tribune, July 31, 1941 that

3 million American dollars are being salted away in the bank vaults of downtown New York ... as a sort of nest egg for Herr Thyssen and perhaps some of his high-placed Nazi friends.

When the story finally broke it led to significant public outrage, culminating in a public investigation by the US government into the dealings of Union Banking Corporation.  That October, the examiner concluded:

Its primary purpose has always been to administer the foreign investments of the Thyssen concerns located in Germany, and the Union Banking Corporation has since its inception handled funds chiefly supplied to it through the Dutch bank by the Thyssen interests for American investments.

Prescott Bush, George W. Bush’s grandfather, was a director of Union Banking Corporation, which in October 1942 was seized by the Office of Alien Property acting "under the authority of the Trading with the Enemy Act, as amended, and by Executive Order 9095, as amended."

United Banking Corporation was founded in 1924 to manage Thyssen’s U. S. investments as a subsidiary of a Dutch bank controlled by Thyssen’s family.  The Wall Street firm Brown Brothers Harriman, of which Prescott Bush was a partner, was linked to the rise of the Nazi regime through Fritz Thyssen, a German industrialist known to be a supporter of Hitler before Hitler became chancellor of Germany in January 1933.  In March 1933 Hitler became dictator of Germany; in July of that year, he appointed Fritz Thyssen economic "czar" of the industrial Rheinland-Westphalia region.

When the Netherlands surrendered to the Germans in May 1940, the U. S. government froze all Dutch assets in the United States, including Union Banking’s assets, to protect them from the Nazis.

In November 1941 the U.S. government reclassified Union Banking as a German-owned business.  Following U.S. entry into the war, Roosevelt issued Exective Orgder 9095 establishing the Office of Alien Property and empowered the Alien Property Custodian to confiscate businesses owned by enemy nationals.  This was carried out in October 1942 "under the authority of the Trading With the Enemy Act, as amended, and by Executive Order 9095, as amended."

So there you have it... Bush's grandpa built the family fortune making a killing as bagman for the Nazis.  That doesn't mean George knows anything about Nazi appeasers.  As someone noted in the comments, it's not accurate to say Grandpa was a Nazi appeaser -- he was an accomplice.
